about

In a similar vein to the preceding 'In A Cosmic Fugue' album, 'K4' is a collection of mostly up-tempo beat-orientated electronica tracks, often highly melodic but also equally experimental in nature.

The album makes extensive use of acoustic and electronic percussion sounds which were sampled using a 12 bit Akai S3000XL sampler. The rhythm patterns were sequenced through either Logic Pro X or through an Arturia Beatstep Pro. The tracks also make use of three very different hardware drum machines. Firstly, a Boss DR-660 which contains many classic 1980s drum machine sounds, such as the TR-808 and TR-909; plus two other machines which have their own unique characters - a Korg Electribe ER-1, and an Arturia Drum Brute.

But the primary instrument on these eight tracks is the Kawai K4r digital synthesizer, which is the device responsible for all the other sounds on this album, with the exception of the bass line on 'Partial Eclipse' which was played on an Ibanez SRH-505F fretless bass. The sounds of the K4r are further manipulated through various hardware and software FX devices, including an Alesis Midiverb III, Korg Toneworks AX-300G, Zoom 1201, Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress, Arturia Tape Delay and Memory Brigade, Native Instruments Replika and Raum, and Cherry Audio Galactic Reverb.
